&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The products “Orient brushes” and “Fill Your Own Panda Play Stainless Steel Food Containers” were recalled due to the presence of lead in excess of the allowable limit. Lead is toxic to children at low exposure levels and has been shown to have the potential to cause intellectual and behavioural deficits in children.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Beautiful Nails of Charming Ladies”, “Gelpens Glitter”, and “Oval Star” were withdrawn from the market and/or recalled from end users due to the presence of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and/or di-&amp;#8220;isobutyl&amp;#8221; phthalate (DIBP). According to the REACH Regulations, the phthalates DEHP, DBP and BBP are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles, while phthalates DINP, DIDP and DNOP are prohibited in toys or childcare articles that can be placed in the mouth by children.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The product “Plastic Balloons” were recalled as children’s balloon blowing kits are prohibited for sale in Canada.  These kits may expose a child to inhalation of vapors of any solvents present, thus posing a safety concern to child&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Chromium (VI) is classified as sensitising and may trigger allergic reactions.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The toys “Kul med Scrapbooking”, a set of two plastic figures, “Pirate set”, “Toy series of happy garden”, a plastic doll and plastic ducks  were withdrawn from the market and/or banned from product marketing due to the presence of  di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), di-&amp;#8220;isobutyl&amp;#8221; phthalate (DIBP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and/or  diisononyl phthalate (DINP). In addition, the packaging does not have a child-resistant lid.  The product does not comply with Directive 1999/45/EC relating to the classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous preparations.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Europe&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The toys “Plastic dolls”, “Toy truck”, “Facemask”, “Plastic doll”, “Plastic doll with accessories”, and “Police play-set” were withdrawn from the market, recalled from end users or banned from marketing due to the presence of bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) and/or dibutyl phthalate (DBP).  According to the REACH Regulation DEHP and DBP are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles, while DINP is prohibited in toys or childcare articles that can be placed in the mouth by children.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The toys “ Plastic Doll”, “Set of dolls”, “Toy gun set”, “Radio-controlled toy”, “Plastic dolls”, “Colouring pencils”, “Mermaid doll”, “Rubber balls”, “Police toy set”, “Toy gun with sweets”, “Plastic doll with accessories”, and “Plastic baby doll”, were withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users, banned from marketing, rejected at the border for importation, voluntarily destroyed, or voluntarily withdrawn due to the presence of bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and/or di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP).  According to the REACH Regulation DEHP, DBP, and BBP are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles, while DINP, DIDP, and DNOP are prohibited in toys or childcare articles that can be placed in the mouth by children.&lt;/p&gt;

It will focus on potential impacts to air, water, land and food quality and how these may relate to public health. It is anticipated that Phase 2 work will be complete by March 2014.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Bart Koppe, project manager, Intrinsik –&lt;br/&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;#8220;In order to conduct this important work, Intrinsik assembled a multi-disciplinary team of scientific professionals with demonstrated expertise and experience in designing and performing assessments of this kind. On behalf of the Intrinsik study team, we look forward to assisting the Ministry of Health and all British Columbians to better understand the potential health-related impacts of oil and gas activities in northeast B.C. through the completion of what promises to be a comprehensive and transparent health risk assessment.&amp;#8221;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description><link>http://intrinsik-inc.tumblr.com/post/33772721660</link><guid>http://intrinsik-inc.tumblr.com/post/33772721660</guid><pubDate>Wed, 17 Oct 2012 10:23:38 -0400</pubDate><category>consumer products</category><category>product recalls</category></item><item><title>Chemicals and Consumer Products – Noteworthy Consumer Product Recalls (Aug 24, 2012).</title><description>&lt;p&gt;The following consumer products were recently recalled due to toxicological and/or labelling violations in Canada, the United States or Europe:&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;em&gt;Canada&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;None&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;em&gt;United States&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The products “EOS Rebel T4i Digital SLR Cameras” have been voluntarily recalled due to the risk of skin irritation to the consumer from a chemical reaction in the cameras’ rubber grips.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details on this recall, please see the following &lt;a href="http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml12/12246.html" target="_blank"&gt;link&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;em&gt;Europe&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The toy “Key ring duck aquarium and water dolphin” was banned from marketing due to the presence of a liquid with aliphatic and /or aromatic compounds, R65 characterized. If the liquid leaks it can cause acute poisoning in lungs.  The product does not comply with the REACH Regulation.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details, please see number 1 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=455" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The toys “Plastic toy with accessories”, “Plastic dolls”, “Police play set”, and “Toy gun set” were banned from marketing, withdrawn from the market, voluntarily recalled, or rejected for import at the border due to the presence of bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and/or di-isononyl phthalate (DINP). According to the REACH Regulation, DEHP and DBP are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles, while DINP is prohibited in toys or childcare articles that can be placed in the mouth by children.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details, please see numbers 5, 7, 9, 14, 18, 19, 21 and 31 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=455" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt; and number 15 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=456" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The childcare product “Soother” was withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users due to the presence of detectable peroxide residues. The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 1400-3.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details, please see number 10 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=455" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The products “Tattoo ink” were banned from marketing due to the presence of aromatic amine, o-anisidine (CAS no. 90-04-0), which is a substance classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic and sensitising.  In addition, two of the products contained aromatic hydrocarbons such as styrenes and alpha-methyl styrenes or 2-ethoxyaniline, which are also toxic.  According to the Council of Europe Resolution ResAP (2008) on requirements and criteria for the safety of tattoos and permanent make-up, o-anisidine should not be present in tattoo ink.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details, please see numbers 26, 27, and 28 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=455" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The products “Children’s shoes” and “Gloves” were withdrawn from the market due to the presence of dimethylfumarate (DMF). DMF is a substance which is strongly sensitising on contact with the skin, and consumer products containing DMF are banned according to the REACH Regulation.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;For more details, please see numbers 4 and 6 in the following &lt;a href="http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/create_rapex.cfm?rx_id=456" target="_blank"&gt;table&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The product “Liquid for electronic cigarette” was voluntarily withdrawn from the market due to insufficient labelling for the level of nicotine.
